Of course, in the grand scheme of a well-balanced, nutrient-dense, varied, whole foods diet, the cooked vs. raw debate isn’t that critical for most people.

And I’ll tell you that the answer isn’t as simple as “raw is always better” or “cooked is always better.”

How to Read Nutrition Facts Tables

The Nutrition Facts table is on the side of most packaged foods. It’s often found close to the ingredient listing.

The purpose of it is to help consumers make better nutrition decisions. When people can see the number of calories, carbs, sodium, etc. in food, they should be able to eat better, right?

Digestion is the process that breaks food down so that it can be absorbed. Digestion starts in the mouth with salivary enzymes and chewing, and continues into the stomach where more enzymes are added along with churning motion.
